Eighteen-month-old Jack Russell ‘Diesel’ almost became a hot dog after a hair raising trip from Singleton to Branxton earlier today. Unbeknownst to the owners, Diesel had snuck into the engine compartment of the car. After travelling some 22kms along the Hunter Expressway, and reaching speeds of up to 100km/h, Diesel’s owner heard howling in the car. She pulled over in a local Branxton street and called Triple Zero (000).

Firefighters from Branxton Fire Station arrived on scene but were not confident of a successful outcome. Diesel (appropriate, we know) was worryingly quiet as the crew sought to free him from the car, but to his owner’s delight he was pulled out relatively unharmed.
